While the days are getting longer and warmer, and the promise of Spring is right around the corner, we are still loving the comforts of winter, such as snuggling under warm blankets in fluffy PJs enjoying a warm chocolaty cup of Hot Cocoa.

It’s Hot Chocolate Weather and this month we have not one but two hot chocolate treats to keep you warm,  home-made fudgy hot chocolate stirrers and an oh so delicious NOMU hot chocolate mug cake with chocolate sauce … just a little hug in a mug from us to you!

We’ve also included a fun hot chocolate craft which you can do at home while you wait for your hot chocolate stirrers to set, we know wait-ing is the hardest part!

Ready to keep warm and drink cocoa? Let’s get baking.



Line a 20cm x 20cm pan with parchment paper.

Heat the cream and sweetened condensed milk over medium-low heat until it starts steaming, stirring periodically.

Remove from the heat and add the chocolate. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes, then put back on medium-low heat and stir with a whisk until chocolate is completely melted and shiny. (At this point you could add some flavouring… vanilla, hazelnut, peppermint, whatever fits your fancy!)

Pour chocolate into prepared pan and spread chocolate as level as you possibly can. Sprinkle with cocoa, if desired.

Refrigerate and let it set overnight (at least 12 hours). Don’t be tempted to cut it before this time as it needs to set fi rm and you will end up with a chocolatey mess.

While you wait colour in your coffee cup sleeves and decorate your disposable coffee cups! You can also make your yummy mug cakes.

Once set, remove chocolate from pan and cut, top side face down, into squares. Cut them into approximately 5 cm x 5 cm squares. Heat a knife in hot water and wipe dry before each cut, for smoothest cuts. Each batch makes around 16 squares, although those corner squares are shaped a little funny…you might just want to eat those straight up!

Stick the wooden stirrer through the middle of each block.

Swirl into hot milk. One stick is good for about 200 – 250 ml of milk depending on how chocolatey you like it.

Top with Marshmallows and Enjoy!



Combine one NOMU Hot Chocolate Sachet and one Flour Mix Sachet into a mug, add 1 tbsp melted butter and 3 tbsp milk and whisk until evenly combined. We have added enough ingredients into your kit to make four yummy mug cakes.

Cook on high in the microwave for 1 minute. If you’re making more than one mug cake remember to cook them one at a time in the microwave.

It’s that simple!


We have included enough ingredients to make a double batch of Hot Chocolate sauce which will be enough for four mug cakes. You can choose to make a single or double batch depending on how many mug cakes you are making.

Place 125ml (single batch) / 250 ml cream (double batch) and one (single batch) / two (double batch) NOMU hot chocolate sachet(s) in a small saucepan and gently heat, stirring consistently until smooth and creamy. Alternatively, simply heat the cream in the microwave for 60 seconds. While still hot, add the hot chocolate powder and stir until evenly combined.

Serve Warm.


Pour some of the hot chocolate sauce over your mug cake and top with a scoop of ice cream and enjoy the best mug cake you have ever tasted!
