LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!

It’s almost holidays, which means no homework, no waking up early for school runs, and of course we get to stay up late! But why not take it one step further and host a cool movie night! This month’s baking kit has everything you need to plan the best movie night with your family or friends, we’ve even included movie snack trays and popcorn boxes for that authentic cinema feel. So, grab the family, or call your besties for a sleepover and let’s plan a fun night of baking, games and movies.

Movie nights at home are really my absolute favourite, and I often make a big Christmas bed in the lounge with popcorn and snacks and watch our favourite movies while we cuddle up together. The best memories! We love it so much that we decided our first holiday box needed to be a fun memorable movie night that you will be nostalgic about for years to come.

Of course Annie and I had to give the kit a test run and we couldn’t wait to plan our own movie night at home! We started off by baking our delicious vanilla cupcakes, whipped up some buttercream and decorated our iced cupcakes with marshmallow “popcorn” kernels and butter salt (yellow castor sugar). It’s always fun to bake with Annie but knowing it was only the start of our family movie night was even better.

And what would movie night be without freshly popped popcorn? Annie’s daddy taught her a nifty trick of adding Astros to her popcorn, which they named “popcorn surprise”, so Annie and I decorated our movie trays, added our popcorn boxes filled with yummy smelling popcorn and then added a box of Astro’s and our cupcakes to the trays and got ready to snuggle in to watch Dora the Explorer.

To add a little excitement to our movie night, I blew up Annie’s pool and filled it with blankets and pillows which was super fun and surprisingly comfy and then we did what we do best, we cuddled, watched movies and ate all our delicious snacks!

Are you excited to plan your own movie night now? Well then, let’s get baking!

To make your Popcorn Cupcakes you will need to:

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Add your Vanilla Cake Mix in a bowl and to it, add 125g eggs (3 small eggs or 2 extra-large eggs), 100 ml of oil; and 110 ml water. Mix thoroughly together to combine for about 1 to 2 minutes.

Line your cupcake tray with the white cupcake cases. Spoon the batter into the prepared cupcake cases. Fill the cupcake cases three quarters of the way full (about two tablespoons).

Place your cupcakes in your preheated oven and bake for around 20 minutes until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean. Take them out the oven and allow to completely cool before decorating.

To make the marshmallow popcorn, separate the white mini marshmallows and use scissors to snip the top half of each marshmallow in 3 to 4 spots. Doing this will make them look like freshly popped popcorn kernels. Set the prepped marshmallows aside.

To make your Vanilla Buttercream, beat the butter in a bowl until light and fluffy. About 1 to 2 minutes. Sieve the icing sugar and add half the icing sugar to your butter and beat until smooth. Add the remaining icing sugar, 5 ml of vanilla essence, and one tablespoon of milk and beat the mixture until creamy and smooth. Beat in more milk, if necessary, to loosen the mixture.

Using a cranked spatula or butter knife top your cupcakes with buttercream and pop them into the red tulip cupcake holders.

Pile your marshmallow “popcorn” onto your cupcake, lightly pressing the popcorn into the icing so it stays put.

To make your popcorn look buttered, sprinkle it with the yellow castor sugar.

Cut out your movie ticket and clapboard cupcake toppers, glue them onto the sticks provided and stick them into your cupcakes.

Decorate your movie trays with the billboard signs and gold stars and whatever other decorations you want to add.

Lastly, pop some popcorn, add it to your popcorn box, slip in your popcorn cupcake in the drinks holder side, add whatever other treats you like and get ready to snuggle up for the best movie night ever.

Please share your special movie night memories with us, we can’t wait to see what you plan!

Love,

Annie
